 Meet Skylar, as a mom herself, Skylar knows first-hand how challenging it can be to carve out time for your own health and wellness — and that understanding is exactly what drives her passion for making sure every parent who walks through our doors feels confident, comfortable, and completely at ease leaving their little ones in her care.

While Skylar balances another job outside of the YMCA, her dedication to the Child Watch Program never wavers. The moment she walks in and sees those little faces light up, it's clear — this is exactly where she is meant to be.

Skylar has a natural gift for connecting with young children. From interactive story time to imaginative crafts proudly displayed throughout our facility, she puts tremendous thought and love into every activity she creates. And if you're lucky, you might just walk in on a day when she's brought in some of her homemade baked goods to share with the kiddos — because yes, she loves to bake too! 

One of Skylar's greatest passions is introducing children to the joy and excitement of special holiday celebrations — giving them a taste of what school life has in store and showing them just how fun it can be. From Halloween trick-or-treating with our Seniors to Easter egg hunts in the lobby.

Her creativity and community spirit also shine through in the fundraisers she organizes throughout the year — including a beloved lemonade stand in the summer and baked goods sales in the fall — all to raise funds for updated toys and craft supplies that keep the program fresh, fun, and engaging for every child.

 Meet Abby, she has been a valued member of the YMCA family for the past five years. Her journey began as a mom who wanted to prioritize her own health while knowing her children were in a safe, caring environment through our Child Watch program. After experiencing its impact firsthand, she knew she wanted to help provide that same opportunity for other families by joining the YMCA team.

As our Child Watch Coordinator, Abby creates a fun, welcoming, and safe space where children can learn, play, and grow. She loves working with kids of all ages, planning creative crafts and age-appropriate activities that keep every child engaged and excited to return.

The Roehm family has truly embraced the YMCA mission. Abby's oldest son, 💙 Benji Schaffner, started as a YMCA soccer player and gave back by volunteering as a referee each season, demonstrating the same servant-hearted spirit that Abby models every day. He also helped create fun games for little ones in the Child Watch Program. He will be truly missed by everyone's heart he has touched.  💙 

In addition to balancing another job outside of the YMCA, Abby is always willing to help wherever she's needed—from organizing bake sales to support Child Watch, to assisting with youth dance and family events. Her kindness, creativity, and dedication make a lasting impact on the children, parents, and staff she serves.

We are incredibly grateful to have Abby as part of our YMCA family. She embodies the spirit of caring, community, and service, and we are honored to have her helping make the Y a place where every family feels welcome.

One of Leah's greatest joys at camp is witnessing the growth of campers — not just throughout a single season, but across the years. There is something truly special about watching kids return summer after summer and seeing how much they've blossomed. Among the most meaningful transformations she observes are the development of self-confidence, the forging of lasting friendships, and the strengthening of all the core values that day camp is built upon.

For Leah, summer memories hold a unique kind of magic — and she is passionate about making every moment count for the campers in her care. Now a parent herself, Leah brings a deeply personal perspective to her role. Understanding firsthand the challenges young children can face, she approaches each camper with empathy and encouragement, helping them navigate obstacles and celebrate every milestone along the way.

With a love for photography and arts and crafts, Leah brings a creative spark to camp that kids absolutely love. She takes pride in incorporating hands-on creative activities into the camp experience and has a gift for capturing those priceless, candid moments that families will treasure for years to come.

Beyond the summer season, Leah continues to give back to the community by helping organize and run youth dances during the off-season, as well as supporting the Free Child Watch program — a testament to her unwavering commitment to youth development and family support year-round
